Giedo van der Garde made it a perfect start to the season by winning both races at Monza. The P1 Motorsport driver qualified himself in pole position and won the race on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday Van der Garde dominated the race but on Sunday it was a near victory. “This was race a bit more difficult to be honest than the one on Saturday,” said van der Garde. “After the safety car period I braked hard entering the chicane. I blocked both of my front tyres and had enormous flatspots on both tyres causing a lot of understeer in slow corners. I really had to race on the limit to stay ahead of the pack really but we did it and obviously I’m really proud to have achieved such a great result!”
“This is a dream start really. Pole, two victories and the fastest lap is more than I could have hoped for. If we keep performing like this we can look forward to a great season. I will now prepare myself for next week’s race at Spa-Francorchamps – one of the best tracks on the calendar.”
