After winning the race at the Hungaroring on Saturday there was not much to cheer about for Giedo van der Garde on Sunday. Giedo started his race from sixth position and quickly worked himself up to fourth. As the Dutchman tried an overtaking maneuver for third place he spun and got stuck in the gravel.

“This is really unfortunate,” Giedo said. “I had a great start and took two places. I had an early pit stop and after Jousse made his I got right on his tail. We had a great battle but I was unable to overtake him. At the end of the race I was much faster than the guy in front of me and really wanted to overtake him. I was going over the limit though and lost the car and got stuck in the gravel.
“It’s a really a sad end to my weekend in Hungary as I could have scored eight points instead of none. But since I won the race on Saturday I hardly lost anything on my competitors.”
Van der Garde is leading the World Series by Renault with 96 points.
